The National Famine Way is a 165 km heritage trail tracing the 1847 journey of 1,490 emigrants from Strokestown, Co. Roscommon, to the Famine statues in Dublin’s Docklands. The route passes through Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath, Meath, Kildare, and Dublin, following quiet roads and the Royal Canal. Marked with bronze shoe sculptures and rich storytelling points, it links towns, museums, and memorial sites. The trail commemorates the hardship and resilience of those who walked in hope of survival, offering a powerful cultural and historical experience.
