Residence of the President of Ireland

The Phoenix Park’s 16km perimeter wall encloses 707 hectares of large grassland and tree-lined avenues and is home to a herd of Wild Fallow Deer. Áras an Uachtaráin, the residence of the President of Ireland dates from 1750 and is located in the centre of the park adjacent to the United States Ambassador’s residence, which was built in 1774.

Many other historic buildings and monuments are located in the park such as the Papal Cross, which was erected for the visit of Pope John Paul II on 29 September 1979.

The Victorian People’s Flower Gardens comprises an area of 9 hectares and displays Victorian horticulture at its best.
