Áras an Uachtaráin, the residence of the President of Ireland, dates from 1750 and is located in the centre of the Phoenix Park. It is adjacent to the United States Ambassador’s residence, which was built in 1774. Many other historic buildings and monuments are also located in the Phoenix Park.
The Papal Cross was erected for the visit of Pope John Paul II on 29 September 1979, with over 1 million people attending an open-air mass at the time.
A scenic grassland area, the Phoenix Park is also home to a herd of Wild Fallow Deer.
